Rodmell Wildflower Project

In 2024 a group of local residents approached Rodmell Parish Council and introduced the idea of a wildflower project to increase biodiversity in the village and encourage a broader range of pollinators.

A site for the project was agreed in conjunction with Rodmell Parish Council and the Wettern Family. Seed was purchased with money donated to Rodmell Parish Council from contractors working in the village the previous year.

Willing volunteers set too with clearing the scrub and preparing the soil for sowing.

Northease Manor School students visited on three occasions and did a lot of hard work getting this local community project off to a flying start.

The project was joined up with the 'Weald to Waves' initiative, providing a safe corridor for insects and wildlife. A bug hotel was also created up against the back wall and many branches, twigs and old logs were utilised.

The project was a great success and the flowers bloomed with a stunning display in 2024 with more plant & grass species appearing over the summer months.

With thanks to Ali Walters, Lindy Smart, Northease Manor School students, Ali Ghanimi, George Hickey and the Wettern Family.
